Bradford College is a mature institution and large-scale provider of both FE and HE programmes, in fact as the largest provider of HE in the FE sector the college is in a unique position to make a major contribution to the development of course management across a range of subjects, educational levels, and learning modes. With a history of innovative practice in the successful operation of externally funded projects, this commitment underpins the capacity of the college to initiate, manage, complete and disseminate a major implementation such as XCRI-CAP.

This project seeks to transform processes and systems in order to accommodate new datasets and to integrate these systems into a wider enterprise architecture that is fit for purpose. The result, as well as providing a XCRI-CAP feed to aggregators, will be a long-term, transformational impact on the way course information supports a range of business functions within our college.  The scope of our project will be inclusive of the full range of our course provision, our current database is XCRI-1.1 compliant.

Objectives

• to implement the development of our course database in order to ensure that it adheres to the XCRI-CAP data standard and is capable of generating an XCRI-CAP feed to appropriate aggregators. 
• to include in our XCRI-CAP feeds information about those course that are typically hard to find in current information systems

Anticipated Outputs and Outcomes

• Fulll Project Report: Providing comprehensive detail of workflow, systems analysis issues, lessons learned and critical success factors associated with improved course information management
• XCRI-CAP 1.2 – 1.n Feed:  Regular valid feed to more than one aggregator of all course data
• An XCRI compliant database: A database that is fit for purpose, interoperable and extendable.
• Knowledge built around marketing process: Efficiencies gained in generating “on-demand” marketing materials
• Enterprise Architecture (report): A institution-level appreciation of the benefits of an enterprise architecture approach.
• A full workflow mapping:  Outlining the processes employed to ensure the maintenance of accurate and timely
  information in the course database – appropriate to a non-technical audience e.g. academic areas, marketing staff.   
•  Improved working practice: More efficient collection and use of course data, evidenced by for example savings in costs of production of college prospectus.
