Domain mapping and modelling
Bill Olivier
This session looked at the role of Domain Mapping and Modelling in
supporting user engagement in the development and integration of ICT
systems; in building a common store of domain knowledge reusable across
multiple developments; in helping the identification of key issues;
exploring where commonality can be found across domains and identifying the
interface at the interaction across domains; in communicating relevant
domain knowledge to developers; and how an institution can adapt them to
provide a model of their situation, identifying what they share with others
and can expect common ICT systems and where they are unique and will need
to develop unique solutions.
It then examined the suggested elements of a domain map and model, the
purpose of each: Stakeholders and Roles; the Goals and key Functions;
Domain Context; Domain Information Model; Domain Systems Model and the way
they can be expressed in Scenarios acting as a link to Practice and Process
Models
Finally, this session considered the interplay between top down and
bottom up approaches to developing maps and evolving them into models.
