International Projects

Influenced by reports such as Professor Sir Gareth Roberts’ International Partnerships of Research Excellence , and the 2009 Higher Education and Collaboration in Global Context: Building a Global Civil Society, the JISC eContent and Digitisation programme has developed various international programmes to allow for the development of digital resources in an international context.

Two phases of work with the US National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) have been initiated, seeking to unite digital content and expertise on either side of the Atlantic. The first phase ran from April 2008 to 2009 (further details (PDF) or see the projects below); a second phase is currently underway, and will complete in March 2011.

The Digging into Data Challenge involves the NEH, and also the US National Science Foundation, and the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. Inspired by the series of ideas and workshops What to do with a Million Books, this programme aims to fund innovative projects doing large-scale analysis over digitised material Winners will be announced in early December 2009, with the 15-month projects commencing soon after. Further details are available on the challenge website
