Projects to enrich and develop digital content for research teaching in- and outside universities.

e-Content programme 2011

The eContent 2011 programme builds on previous programmes and aims to encourage partnerships for the clustering and enriching of existing digitised content and engaging the wider community in the co-creation of digital content.

The eContent 2011 programme builds on the investment and achievements of the previous eContent  and Enriching Digital resources programmes.

This programme builds on the outcomes of the JISC Digital Content Conference 2009  which, among other issues, focused on strategies for managing content and user engagement, as well as the work of the JISC Digital Content Taskforce. Notably, the report from the London taskforce meeting emphasised the importance of building new partnerships in order to find ways to re-package and re-present existing digital content. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the importance of crowd-sourcing as an efficient way of establishing new content and communities of digital content.

This programme includes two strands:

  • Strand A: Enriching via Collaboration

Projects under this strand are working in partnership in order to cluster, repackage and re-present existing digital content thus maximising its use and benefits. Projects are exploring clustering digital resources around themes relevant to research and teaching, or enhancing digital content by improving functionality and interfaces. It is also concerned with how existing audiences can be expanded and new ones discovered.

  • Strand B: Developing Community Collections

This strand follows on from the Developing Community Content programme and is funded in partnership with JISC’s Business and Community Engagement (BCE) programme. Projects under this strand focus on involving the general public or specific communities of people in adding value to existing digital content or co-creating digital content through partnership and community engagement.
