Putting Eprints into the Community

Project Description

The aim of the project is to move key support infrastructure for Eprints into the user community. This means progressively devolving and sharing responsibility for management, code development, user support, and marketing. By the end of the project we expect these activities to result in significantly expanding the number of installed institutional Eprints archives, and to support third-party plug-in services to improve the utility of the archives. This will be progress but not an end point. Above this, we want make it possible for the responsibilities of any or all of these ongoing activities for core open source Eprints software to be transferred from Southampton to other qualified groups, either a broad management body or other centres acting as clients providing one or other of these services, with the potential for enterprise-level services tool.
