data.bris
The University of Bristol proposes to capitalise on its existing investment in High Performance Computing by developing a comprehensive research data repository service around this storage infrastructure. The data.bris repository will take advantage of existing requirements analyses, experienced staff who are already in place, and good relations with a growing user group of researchers.
Aims and objectives
The data.bris project aims to establish a research data repository service at the University of Bristol, building on the investment already made in research data storage through the Research Data Storage Facility. This service will be piloted within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities during the project, and a business plan will be developed to explore how the model can then be extended across the University. Upon completion, the data.bris repository service will include a family of policies, workflow procedures, software tools and a training programme for research staff and PhD students, coupled with a clearly defined set of roles and responsibilities.
Project methodology
For the purposes of this pilot, the data.bris research data repository service will work closely with projects in the Faculty of Art & Humanities that are planning new research projects and those completing data collection in the period between October 2011-2012. The project manager and project team in IT Services and the Library will develop the pilot service under the guidance of a steering group chaired by the Pro Vice Chancellor for Research. The existing Research Data Storage and Management Board will liaise with the pilot steering group and provide input as required.
