M-Library Support Project
As mobile technologies develop and become more integrated into our daily lives, libraries are utilising them in innovative ways to support key functions such as gaining access to resources and helping users discover more information. Many are experimenting with functionality such as developing mobile websites, specific library apps, or utilising mobile technologies such as using location awareness and cameras for scanning QR codes, barcodes or enabling virtual reality.
The aim of the m-library community support project, as part of the JISC Mobile Infrastructure for Libraries programme, is to:
provide a mobile library community support project to help support and engage the emerging m-library community by reviewing and synthesising existing research and evidence-based guidance
The project has the following objectives:
- to build a body of evidence and practice around the notion of libraries and the provision of services and content to mobile devices
- to seed and develop a sustainable community of practice around the development of m-libraries
- to provide resources and evidence in usable formats, for example web-based resources, that will enable libraries to make informed choices and effectively develop their m-library provision
- A web-based resource recording information about existing initiatives and highlighting best practice in m-libraries
- A sustainable community to support continuing conversation and sharing of good practice in m-libraries
