Aims and Objectives

The aim of the SHORE project is to investigate the use of Shibboleth 1.3 as an Identity Provider (IdP) for the BlackBoard virtual learning environment to provide authentication for registered users.

Deliverables

The project will aim to deliver the following:

  • An operational IdP based on Shibboleth 1.3
  • Registration on the 2 UK based shibboleth federations EDINA and EduServ
  • Assess feasibility of introducing eduPerson auxiliary object class for the university LDAP authentication directory
  • Test access against resources available within the Athens Federation using the Athens-Shibboleth gateway
  • Configure a Blackboard MLE instance to be a shibboleth target
  • Authenticate against local IdP for access to Blackboard MLE
  • Documentation detailing technical implementation
  • Full case study

Project Staff

The SHORE project team is based in Library and Information Services and comprises Alexander Roberts (Project Developer), Dean Jones (Assistant Project Developer) and Ian Vine (Project Advisor).
