Metaleth: University of Bristol Shibboleth Early Adoption
Introduction
Metaleth will be a test bed for the integration of Shibboleth with a third party software product widely used in HE. The lessons should prove valuable to Bristol and many other Universities.
Aims and Objectives
To implement a Shibboleth environment for the University and integrate this with the Ex Libris Group's Library Portal product "Metalib" and the Group's link-server "SFX" as Shibboleth targets. This will mean that a user who successfully attempts to access Metalib or use SFX services will initiate a Shibboleth session that can used by Metalib or SFX and other targets within the ATHENS federation.
The project output will be made available to the 26 UK HE institutions who use Metalib and the 29 using SFX.
The specific objectives are to create:
- Operational Shibboleth origin
- Test Directory service
- Metalib authenticate using the University's Single Sign On service
- Integration with Shibboleth framework
- Documentation and reports
Project Methodology
The focus of the project is to produce a working Shibboleth integration with Metalib and to achieve a clear understanding of all the technical and non-technical issues.
Implications / Deliverables / Stakeholders
The work at Bristol will be documented and packaged in reports and open source code for adoption by other users of Ex Libris products and/or those intending to implement Shibboleth.
