Building Capacity: Writtle Agricultural College
The main aims of the project are to collate and make more accessible the quality and learning and teaching documentation within the college and to improve learning and teaching through the provision of a unique dynamic web presence for CASTLe (The Centre for Academic Standards, Teaching and Learning) with access to all related resources for staff, students and external users.
Overview
CASTLe is responsible for academic standards, quality assurance and enhancement and learning and teaching within Writtle College. The availability and access to materials published by CASTLe is currently limited to an internal audience through the relatively inaccessible medium of the College VLE. Senior management agree that it is a strategic priority to develop a single point of access to the full range of CASTLe learning and teaching and quality assurance materials and resources for easier use by staff, students and external users.
Aims and objectives
- Amalgamate all quality assurance and teaching and learning documentation into a dedicated content management system (CMS).
- Develop an online presence for CASTLe which serves as a unique gateway through which access to the above mentioned documents is achieved.
- Provide a centralised means to access internal and external teaching and learning initiatives, as well as evidence of best practice and developments in open source materials.
Project methodology
A dedicated CMS will be developed with the assistance of external advisers which will allow easy retrieval of documents for staff, students and externals. The CMS will be linked to a Web interface developed by Writtle’s new media developer which will act as a unique access point for all documentation related to academic standards and teaching and learning at the College. The process will be steered and monitored through an external advisory committee.
Anticipated outputs and outcomes
- A dedicated CMS that supports the dynamic areas of academic standards, quality and teaching and learning across the College.
- A unique web presence that interfaces with the CMS and provides user friendly access and search facilities for all inter-related documentation.
- Efficient and simplified access to quality standards documentation
- Efficient and simplified access to teaching and learning documentation
