Building Capacity: University of Bolton
Overview
Currently the University of Bolton (UoB) is undergoing a cross-institutional Academic Review lead by the Deputy Vice Chancellor and a Repositioning & Transformation Taskforce, which is being led by the Vice Chancellor. In support of these initiatives, the Building Capacity@Bolton project will develop a process for identifying external innovations for internal evaluation and where appropriate, adaption, adoption and embedding to meet the strategic priorities of the institution will be undertaken. It is anticipated that this work will provide an innovative, sustainable approach for the University that impacts at different organisational levels through different forums and across the institution.
Aims and Objectives
The aim of the project is to deploy Jisc project outputs and in particular:
- develop a process for identifying innovations that address key strategic priorities for the UoB;
- better understand the mechanisms that can help with systemic institutional change and make proposals to support this;
- focus on academic staff development as an institutional priority.
Project Methodology
The project will develop a ‘Rich Picture’ of the innovation and change mechanisms of the University. This will be used to identify appropriate strategies.
A modified version of the Gartner STREET process will be used to scope institutional requirements & select appropriate Jisc outputs for adaptation by the UoB.
Jorum and PROD databases will be interrogated to help identify potentially useful projects and their outputs. Jisc services including CETIS, InFonet, & Netskills will be used to help track and establish the maturity of innovations and their appropriateness for use.
Anticipated Outputs and Outcomes
- A methodology for the identification of innovations for HEI and propagation across the institution
- Evaluation of pilot activities focusing on staff development
