The study will investigate the complex relationships that individuals have with the institution, the life-cycles of these relationships, the policy framework and the issues surrounding the management of the information and processes.

We will document a set of specimen data cases that exemplify a range of complex membership and authentication issues, build a life-cycle model and identify management issues. The scope will also include specimen data cases of relationships with the Leicester Warwick Medical Schools and the North Warwickshire Further Education College.

The information gatthered will be used to assess the AKENTI distributed model for managing an access control policy in order to provide a 'real world' view of using such a system in an environment with a complex range of institutional membership.

Towards the end of the period we will also seek to actively test our cases and models with other projects in this JISC programme to determine the extent to which caes and models are appropriate in other contexts, and the issues that they raise for implementation of the other authentiaction and authorisation systems that are being investigated.
