The proposed MAWAA project is based on the observation that at present the availability of wireless LAN for access to resources within a campus is generally limited. The project will survey the current usage of WLAN in academic sites, report on technology available for migration towards seamless access to wireless connectivity for academic users. We will place particular emphasis on support of mobility of users between sites, and will present results from local deployment of what we determine to be best current practice WLAN services within the proposer's site.
The MAWAA project will work closely with the TERENA Mobility WG, and other groups active in this area, which includes some existing deployments, e.g. within SURFnet, and track related IETF standards.
The main project deliverables are the results of the UK academic survey (due February 2003), results of the access technology survey (due April 2003) and the results of site trials (due July 2003).
