The overall aim of this project is to integrate previously developed Open Source Certificate Authority software (a Java implementation which also invokes vanilla OpenSSL) with student & staff databases of the collaborating institutions to widen experience in the deployment and use of certificates, providing a full-scale, portable and scalable solution.

LUCIE2: Leeds University certificate issuing engine 2

LUCIE2 builds on previous University of Leeds certificate issuing and central private-key storage JISC funded projects.

It is widely accepted that the user interface for loading certificates into browsers is cumbersome and most unsuitable for mobile use. The project includes research and development of tools to improve this, drawing on the work on short-term certificates at the University of Michigan.

The project will investigate integration with ATHENS and the White Rose Grid will provide authentication and authorisation system exemplars.
