The British Library and JISC have worked in partnership since 2005, signing a third Memorandum of Understanding in 2010. Through this partnership, the British Library and JISC seek to promote excellence in the creation, access and use of digital resources.

Introduction

Leadership and staff place a high value on the partnership, acknowledging its strategic importance and significance to the higher education sector. The British Library and JISC partnership is governed by a joint steering committee comprising senior British Library and JISC colleagues to oversee the relationship and assume overall responsibility for liaison between sub groups set up as a result of the work plan. The steering group meets quarterly to review progress of evolving work-streams and will report progress to the Chief Executive of the British Library and the JISC Executive Secretary. This report does not include all of the partnership activity to date but highlights some of the key projects the partnership has produced and the impact it has had on supporting research and the higher education sector.

"JISC and the British Library have enjoyed a strong and highly successful partnership for a number of years. Commonality of interest and strategy have promoted a range of opportunities. We now need to provide evidence on the impact on the research community – they need the online infrastructure we’re able to provide. We need to stimulate the community to demand online content."
