Jisc Inform addresses green ICT, libraries and e-assessment

24 April 2008

The new issue of Jisc inform is published this week and highlights many of the central issues which were addressed at this Jisc year’s conference, held last week, where innovation was the theme.

In an exclusive interview, Lord Puttnam of Queensgate, discusses his lifetime of experience and his commitment to education. Lord Puttnam also notes that as the Jisc Conference keynote speaker he was looking forward to continuing his journey of learning and noted that in life, he continually ‘prepares to be amazed’.

The Libraries of the Future campaign was launched at this year’s conference and a related article focuses on some interesting input from senior UK library figures.

Green ‘foot-printing’ and energy consumption is discussed in an article ‘How Green is our ICT’ and Peter James, Professor of Environmental Management at Bradford University, makes suggestions regarding sustainability recommendations and the sharing of good practice in the  management of ICT.

Guest journalist Kim Thomas addresses institutional identity management, and Jo Smedley the Jisc / HE Academy Collaboration team leader, looks into navigating the complex field of e-assessment.

inform plus+ - a web-based supplement containing information and materials not available in the printed publication – contains a podcast interview with Lord Puttnam as well as further interviews with Jisc programme managers Rob Bristow, Sarah Davies and James Farnhill. Another item in inform plus+ is an image gallery from the Jisc Collections / BBC Motion Gallery.

inform plus+ also provides a link to the Education Guardian microsite featuring articles explaining  Jisc’s activities in the library arena and the debate about the Libraries of the Future.

Print copies of Inform are currently being circulated to colleges and universities.
