Jisc Inform goes interactive

18 November 2009

The latest Jisc Inform is previewed today with an online version, Inform Plus, showcasing extra content, an interactive timeline, podcasts and videos as well as the usual spread of news from across Jisc’s work in universities and colleges.

This autumn edition looks at how digital technologies are helping colleges and universities reach out locally as well as internationally.

The topics of research, open access and collaboration are all featured in this edition with a podcast interview with Professor Robert Darnton from the University of Harvard talking about the university's journey to transition to open access policies. The interview previews some of the themes of Jisc’s ‘Research 3.0 – driving the knowledge economy’ activity, demonstrating how Jisc adds value to researchers as they manage data, collaborate and publish.

Backbone to the whole process is the JANET (UK) national infrastructure, and an interactive timeline of achievements takes stock of 25 years support to researchers, teachers and learners.

This issue’s debate focusing on data sharing, while there are expert slots about the new Chairs’ Committee from its chair, Professor David Baker, your intellectual property rights questions are answered by Naomi Korn.

As Jisc looks ahead at what it can do to help colleges and universities use the cloud for computing on demand, Inform goes behind the scenes with articles and news items that have added to the debate.

Other articles are supplemented by web links to bring them to life and provide background to Jisc’s work.

A round-up of activity from Jisc’s regional support centres shows what advice and guidance at grassroots can achieve, while the winners of the Jisc award at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards show technology making a difference to international study and the Jisc funded CORRAL project illustrates the power of putting logbook journals online to drive groundbreaking climate change research.
