Jisc sponsors outstanding ICT initiative award

1 October 2009

Jisc is once again sponsoring an award that will highlight university ICT initiatives of national importance – those that have demonstrated the most innovative and strategic use of technology with implications outside their institutions.

The award entitled ‘Outstanding ICT Initiative of the Year’ is part of the suite of annual Times Higher Education Awards to be announced in October this year.

Dr Malcolm Read OBE, Jisc's executive secretary, said: "We are very proud to sponsor these awards for the third year running to help showcase the innovative use of digital technology that is keeping the UK at the forefront of the world’s knowledge economy.”

The judges for the award are Professor David Baker, chair of Jisc’s chairs’ committee and former principal of University College Plymouth St Mark & St John;  Sarah Porter, head of innovation at Jisc, and Dr Sarah Thomas, Bodley's librarian and director of Oxford University Library Services.

The entries came from all corners of the UK, reflected in the shortlisted institutions which are spread as far afield as Northern Ireland, Wales and southern England.  The six shortlisted projects are from:

  • Bucks New University
  • Cardiff University
  • London School of Economics and Political Science
  • Queen's University Belfast
  • University of Reading
  • St George’s, University of London

The winner will be announced by Dr Malcom Read at a gala dinner at Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 15th October 2009.
