  • How we are funded

How we are funded

Over 80% of our funding comes from the UK HE and FE funding bodies, with additional support coming from higher education institutions.

Our core funders collectively appoint one person to the board. A single observer representing all the funders can attend board meetings. Each core funder also sits on the funders and owners group which provides advice to our trustees and leadership team.

We also receive funding from Research Councils UK.

Contributions from institutions

Higher education institutions currently contribute to Jisc via the Jisc (Janet) subscription. From 2014-15 it's proposed this will be remodelled into a membership subscription that will give you access to a package of products and services from across Jisc.

  • We contact your institution directly to outline their exact contribution, which is based on your student numbers and income.
  • Institutions can also choose to take advantage of additional benefits outside those included in the package.
  • Research and development will continue to be fully funded by our core funders.

Find out more about the background to these changes.

Further education and skills

There is minimal change to our further education and skills services. These will continue to be wholly funded by the FE funding bodies.
