New digitisation seminars from JISC Digital Media
With a new academic term comes a new suite of JISC Digital Media training seminars, to support university digitisation assistants, drama departments, researchers and academic librarians.
As demand from learners, academics and researchers increases to search for resources online, the team at JISC Digital Media in partnership with the University of Bristol, has developed five new seminars to share best practice in the creation of digital documentation.
Dave Kilbey, training officer and co-ordinator at JISC Digital Media, says: “We are constantly looking at ways to support the needs of the academic community. These new seminars build upon feedback from previous courses and we hope they will be just as successful.”
Three of the workshops will specifically cater for the needs of drama departments looking to digitally record performances and organise the data. On the first day, artist Paul Hurley will stage ‘Becoming Snail’, which will form a case study for these one-day events.
The 5 events are:
- Successfully Building and Managing Digital Media Collection - 15 September 2009
- The Digital Media Collection +100 Years - 16 September 2009
- Creating Digital Performance Documentation - 23 September 2009
- Managing Digital Performance Documentation - 24 September 2009
- Delivering Digital Performance Documentation - 25 September 2009
Jamie Carstairs, digitisation assistant in Special Collections, Arts and Social Sciences Library, University of Bristol says: "I have attended JISC Digital Media training sessions in the past and was impressed by the clear, professional advice I was given on industry best practice.
"Within universities there are usually one or two people who look after digitisation, working with archivists and academics to bring resources to life. These seminars are a great opportunity to share experience with other professionals and learn from each other, as well as from JISC, which is really good at pointing people in the right direction."
These seminars are funded by JISC's digitisation programme which is offering a total 16 events to investigate the achievements and challenges in putting content online.
