In recognition of his work in education and in particular his 16 years working for JISC, Dr Read will become an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to higher and further education.

JISC's executive secretary receives OBE

JISC’s executive secretary, Dr Malcolm Read has been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2009.Malcolm Read (JISC Executive Secretary)

In recognition of his work in education and in particular his 16 years working for JISC, Dr Read will become an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to higher and further education.

Professor Sir Tim O’Shea Chair of JISC said: “Malcolm has shown both great strategic vision and pragmatic leadership. His honour is further evidence of the high regard in which the JISC is held and to which he has made so many important contributions.”

Malcolm is strongly involved in driving policy and strategy development in the use of digital technology in post-16 education and research. His work at JISC has involved setting-up and supporting infrastructure provision and innovation programmes. He also has a strong interest in the cultural aspects of deploying ICT and promoting access to open research, education resources and the development of open innovation.

Dr Read has published papers and contributed to books with his most recent publication being a chapter in The Tower and Cloud an e-book on the future of technology for education.

Dr Read graduated in 1973 with a degree in Environmental Science from the University of East Anglia and gained a PhD at the University of Manchester in the hydrometeorology of glacial catchment.
