JISC projects win international awards

Five JISC-funded projects have won awards at an international competition focussed on the effective use of technology to support and enhance learning.

The IMS Global Learning Consortium’s Learning Impact Awards, which highlight innovation, are unique in recognising the use of technology as well as how the technology is being used by a college or university. Judged by an expert panel of leaders from education, suppliers and governmental organisations the entrants were assessed against criteria including improving access to, affordability of, and the quality of learning.

Winner of the Best Learning Platform to Repository Integration award, Peter Kilcoyne, Director of ILT at Worcester College of Technology and collector of the prize for the Moodle Repository Create, Upload, Tag and Embed (MR-CUTE) project, said: "I'm really pleased that our work to create such a useful repository for Moodle has been recognised by the IMS. We have lots of plans to develop MrCute further to make it a stand alone repository that can be used with any platform. This award helps us gain the profile and recognition to assist us in our further endeavours.”

David Morris, Director of HE Development at Coventry and winner of the Best Institutional Repository award for the Coventry University Repository Validation and Enhancement (CURVE) project, said: "We’re delighted to be recognised in this way. Our success in winning in this category is testament to the value we have gained from developing CURVE with the help of JISC and the support of the repositories development programme. The IMS recognition will help us with promoting CURVE within the Coventry community and encourage even more colleagues to deposit resources."

JISC-funded projects accounted for five of the seven UK winners:

Best Institutional Repository

Coventry University Repository Validation and Enhancement (CURVE)

Best Learning Platform to Repository Integration

Moodle Repository Create, Upload, Tag and Embed (MR-CUTE)

The awards are closely tied to the annual IMS Learning Impact Conference and Summit on Global Learning Challenges, which this year had a record attendance of global leaders from 25 countries and six continents.
