New 'Generator' tool to boost technology in FE and skills sector
JISC’s Regional Support Centres (RSCs) are partners in the development and deployment of ‘Generator’, the brand new technology improvement self-assessment tool for FE and skills launched this month by Becta.
Marion Miller, of the JISC RSC for Yorkshire and Humber, welcomes the new ‘Generator’ tool, in whose development JISC RSCs have been involved from the outset. This has been through representation on the ‘Generator’ Design Authority, and through enabling regional focus groups to capture sector feedback. Miller states: ‘Learning providers will be able to use the outputs from this tool to inform the individual e-learning strategic support that the JISC RSCs provide.’
John Stone, Chief Executive of Learning Skills Network and chair of the ‘Generator’ steering group, said: ‘After a great deal of work to identify best practice in learning and skills we believe we have created a flexible and forward-looking leadership improvement tool in 'Generator' that will continue to support developments throughout FE and skills for years to come. With it, learning providers will not only be able to assess their use of technology, but they can benchmark themselves against other providers and develop their improvement plans.’
Commenting on the launch, FE Minister Siôn Simon MP said: ‘I really want to see Further Education students enjoying the opportunities and benefits technology offers. There are already excellent examples of learning technologies right across the sector. But I want to see more and better. I want to see our colleges and training providers recognised nationally and internationally for the innovative and creative way they use technology.’ He went on to single out ‘Generator’ as a practical source of support for achieving such goals.
