‘Carbon zero’ new builds: what managers need to know
Title: New Build - Zeroing in on Carbon Footprints
Date: 27 January 2009 (10:00am to 4:00pm)
Venue: JISC London offices, Brettenham House, London, WC2E 7EN
With the increasing importance of ‘greening’ ICT within education, a free event in London on 27 January is about to show senior managers how to conceptualise and design ‘carbon zero’ new builds.
Hosted by the JISC Regional Support Centre (RSC) South-East, this topical seminar will provide essential information for any senior manager considering the environmental as well as the pedagogical impact of a new build project.
In an interview (see podcast below), RSC manager Ann Thunhurst explains that senior managers within education need to consider their carbon output in every new build, showing vision today in order to future-proof their buildings for tomorrow.
What the ‘zero carbon’ new build seminar involves
- Martin Mayfield of Arup Engineering Company will be helping managers to understand the issues and investment in achieving a zero carbon building.
- The architect’s perspective will be provided by John Bryan, of Bond Bryan Architects.
- Approaches, impacts and lessons from experience will be discussed by Richard Everett of intelligentBuilders Ltd.
- Help with translating the vision into practice will come from Graeme Tizard and Jeremy Mockford of Doncaster College, whose new multi-million pound waterfront campus (known as the Hub) is giving its students access to some of the best educational facilities in the country.
- A second 'vision into practice' seminar is delivered by Tim Hulme, Executive Director at Hastings College - an institution involved in one of the most high-value and complex projects currently being delivered in the sector.
Tomorrow’s event - New Build - Zeroing in on Carbon Footprints: Making the Most of Strategy, Pedagogy, Learning Spaces and Stakeholders - is the latest in a suite of new build events staged by this RSC.
