Digital Curation – Edinburgh’s International Conference
From the 1-3 December 2008, Edinburgh plays host to the 4th International Digital Curation Conference, whose theme is ‘Radical Sharing: Transforming Science?’
The diverse programme features workshops and keynote speakers on topics ranging from sustainability issues and the Curation Lifecycle Model to 'data curation as risk-management', with an insight into the DRAMBORA (Digital Repository Audit Method Based on Risk Assessment ) toolkit. The innovations possible through radical data sharing such as the Open Notebook Science experiment will be discussed, with day two offering a ‘minute madness’ session of poster presentations.
Edinburgh’s JISC-funded Digital Curation Centre (DCC) exists to help store, manage and protect digital items from technological obsolescence and from the fragility of digital media, to preserve long-term access and promote best practice on a global level. The implications of this vast task are at the heart of this timely conference.
