JISC welcomes relaunch of the ‘Harnessing Technology’ strategy

JISC today welcomed the relaunch of the cross-sectoral ‘Harnessing Technology’ strategy which has been updated following an extensive consultation by the Department for Children Schools and Families, and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

‘JISC fully supports the strategy’s commitment to ensuring the benefits of technology are exploited all across education and research'The revised strategy sets out a commitment to ensuring every school, college, university and training provider is 'technology confident', placing particular emphasis on achieving this through engagement with learners and parents and the professional development of teachers and trainers.

Becta has been tasked with leading and working with education and skills providers, Government and national partners to ensure this ambitious strategy is delivered by 2014 and JISC, in partnership with the Higher Education Academy and HEFCE, is supporting Becta on behalf of the higher education sector.

Dr Malcolm Read, Executive Secretary of JISC, said: ‘JISC fully supports the strategy’s commitment to ensuring the benefits of technology are exploited all across education and research, to the continued development of national and cross-sectoral approaches where these bring clear benefits and to the importance of leadership in this context. With the Academy we will ensure that the strategy aligns with HEFCE and other funder investments in technology, to meet the needs of the higher education and research sectors.’
