From development to innovation: new emphasis for key JISC activities

From today, JISC’s Development group – the team that directs and manages programmes across a wide range of key JISC activities, such as e-learning, the Information Environment, e-Research and others - will be known as the Innovation group.

The change comes as JISC’s work in these areas is increasingly recognised at the Government departmental level as being central to national e-learning, e-infrastructure and research agendas which see the support and encouragement of innovation as being vital to UK education and research and to its attempts to enhance its global standing. Innovation better reflects what is central to JISC’s mission and what it is that we do to support UK education and research.

Sarah Porter, JISC’s Head of Innovation, said: ‘While the change doesn’t affect the substance of what we do, it’s also more than simply a name change. Innovation better reflects what is central to JISC’s mission and what it is that we do to support UK education and research.

‘It also indicates a renewed commitment on our part to ensuring that we support institutions in their mission to remain among the best and most innovative in the world. JISC’s activities in these areas have achieved a great deal over more than ten years and we look forward to continuing our work to support innovation in UK further and higher education.’
