JISC online conference 2007 - e-books published today

‘Institutional transformation’ and ‘supporting lifelong learning’ were the themes of the JISC online conference held earlier this year and two conference e-books have been published today to reflect both of these themes.

The conference focused on the role of e-learning in institutional transformation, progression and lifelong learning. Contributors to the programme represented perspectives from both FE and HE to form a richly diverse programme, one which is fully reflected in the newly published e-books.

The online conference, held in June, offered all of the features of a physical conference – and more. It put delegates in touch with colleagues and eminent speakers from the UK and internationally, but also offered greater flexibility ‘I really liked the way it gave people the time to compose intelligent questions, incorporate links and participate in multiple in-depth discussions. What a great way to create and share knowledge!’ than a face-to-face conference. Delegates were able to engage with presentations in advance – many of these were multimedia and offered a greater breadth of experience – before participating in debates at times and places convenient to them.

‘The surprise of the conference for me was the sheer amount of real interest and useful conversation in the social forum,’ was the feedback from one delegate. ‘I really liked the way it gave people the time to compose intelligent questions, incorporate links and participate in multiple in-depth discussions. What a great way to create and share knowledge!’ said another delegate.

The e-books are not intended to replace the energy and immediacy of these online debates or the unique experience of participating in an international event of this kind, but to provide an insight into the rich activities and challenges the conference provided. Withpapers, presentations, or links to those located elsewhere, information about the presenters, summaries of the discussions that followed and links to recommended resources, the e-books also contain generalguidance on use at the start of each e-book providing a valuable insight into the activities and debates from the conference and a rich resource for future reference.
