Cutting-edge UK e-research showcased at major international conference
The UK’s e-Science programme is being showcased at a major international conference in Reno, Nevada, beginning today. Over 6000 delegates from around the world are gathering for the annual SC07 International Conference for High Performance Computing to hear about the latest technical developments, new applications, research results, and national and international policy developments and initiatives.
Funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and hosted by the UK National Grid Service (NGS) - which is jointly funded by JISC - the United Kingdom Pavilion will feature continuous demonstrations of cutting edge applications of High Performance Computing and Grid Computing. The auditorium in the centre of the Pavilion will highlight particular projects from the UKe-science programme and allow for in-depth audience questions and discussion.
Projects to be demonstrated at the United Kingdom Pavilion include:AstroGrid which has created and deployed the UKs Virtual Observatory, giving astronomers a 'one-stop' access to all the worlds’ astronomy data from their desktop; the JISC-funded National Centre for Text Mining (NaCTeM) which is investigating solutions to the data deluge problem, and GridPP which is demonstrating the Real Time Monitor showing the world’s largest scientific grid as it happens.
