JISC awards contract for national online journals agreements to Content Complete

Following national agreements for the provision of online journals to the higher education community which have brought savings of some £6m in the last three years, JISC has renewed Content Complete Ltd’s contract to act as negotiation agent for NESLi2, the online journals initiative.

June 2003 marked the beginning of a new phase in the licensing of scholarly journals for UK higher education when NESLi2 was established by JISC and a new, independent company, Content Complete Ltd (CCL), was appointed as negotiation agent following a competitive tendering exercise. Since then nearly 5000 journals have been made available to universities in the UK from 20 major publishers.

That agreement comes to an end in December 2006, but following a second tender exercise, CCL has once again been selected to represent the community for the next two years.

Commenting on CCL’s re-appointment, Lorraine Estelle, CEO of JISC Collections, said: ‘National agreements for electronic journals have been a major success story of the last three years, bringing a wide range of vital scholarly resources to universities and significant savings to hard-pressed library budgets. I’m delighted that Content Complete has been successful once again and can build on their excellent work over three years as our NESLi2 negotiation agent.'
