OSS Watch launches a new guide on integration in service provision

Integration in service provision: new guide by OSS Watch

Integration between systems is often cited as the key to providing the best possible IT service. Why is that? What does integration really mean? How can integration be achieved?

OSS Watch has produced a guide that addresses these questions, focussing on integration as it applies to service provision in academia. Although aimed at the system administrator, ‘Integration in service provision’ would be useful reading for all decision-makers in ICT, especially as technical detail is complemented by discussion of the wider context. To this end the document starts by examining what integration means and why it is important before introducing the fundamental components that are necessary to get on with the business of integrating disparate IT services. Each of these key components is then discussed in detail and a relevant case study from academia examined in each case.
