Delegates gather in Edinburgh for International WWW conference
The International World Wide Web conference begins in Edinburgh today. Organised by the International World Wide Web Conference
committee (IW3C2), the annual WWW Conference is the global event for
the key influencers, decision makers, technologists, businesses and
standards bodies shaping the future of the web. Among the highlights of the
conference this week will be a keynote speech from Sir Tim Berners-Lee,
inventor of the World Wide Web, in which he will showcase new web
capabilities along with other key experts.
JISC is a Silver Sponsor of this year's World Wide Web
Conference, and its activities at the conference begin today with
a free
pre-conference workshop on the JISC Information Environment and
Digital Repositories. The workshop will highlight the work of its Digital
Repositories programme and look at how repositories will play an
increasing role supporting universities and colleges as they share and
manage their intellectual outputs. Repositories enable universities
and colleges to share and manage their intellectual outputs, making
existing work easier, more effective and efficient, and supporting
innovative teaching, learning and research practice.
This workshop presents the work JISC is funding to bring this about, and
offers an opportunity for those working in universities to discuss how
they might best exploit this work in their own contexts. The aim
of the workshop is to deepen the shared understanding of the higher
education community about the role of repositories. The target
audience is researchers, teachers, managers and administrators who
have an interest in sharing or managing the intellectual output of
universities.
