The JISC Collections team has launched a new video resource explaining the benefits of the JISC model licence

New film shows how JISC model licence adds value to e-resources

Through its model licence, JISC makes available high-quality e-resources on terms more favourable than any standard commercial licence.  It contains provisions which allow students and staff to make effective use of online resources for learning, teaching and research.

JISC Collections Team manager Lorraine Estelle says that the model license ensures the academic sector receives good value from the resources it subscribes to. ‘However,’ she says, ‘this is a complex area and users do not always understand the flexibility and the permitted uses.’

A short film has just been launched which explains the JISC model licence, highlighting its value to teaching, research and learning. Showing the benefits of the licence from the viewpoint of student, researcher and librarian, the film will be of interest to all those who provide information and training to colleagues and students in this area.

‘The film is a very exciting development for us,’ says Lorraine Estelle. ‘It describes in an accessible way the value of the licence in education and research. Providing different perspectives means it’s extremely relevant to a range of users. We have already heard from one librarian that he plans to use the film in training sessions for new staff.’

The film is available in two formats by clicking on the following links:
