RDN launches free Internet tutorial for ESOL students
As part of the Jisc Exchange for Learning (X4L) programme the RDN Virtual Training Suite has launched a new e-learning tutorial for ESOL (English as a Second Language) students designed to help them develop their Internet research skills.
The tutorial offers free advice on using the Web to help with learning the English language, researching for ESOL college projects, finding education and employment opportunities, and locating information on UK health services and benefits.
The tutorial offers a simple step-by-step approach with quizzes and interactive exercises to lighten the learning. “Success stories” highlight how people can use the Web to help in practical situations. The tutorial is designed to be picked up and used by ESOL tutors and students across the UK.
David Crystal, the prominent writer, lecturer and broadcaster on language and linguistics, said:
“It's clear, crisp and colourful. I can't imagine a more user-friendly way of making the Internet user-friendly.”
Further Education Manager of the RDN, Mark Williams said:
“There’s a high demand for such support within the sector. We’re delighted to have been able to extend our training services into the ESOL / EFL area and fill an important gap within FE resources”.
