New Jisc infoNet publication helps to make lifelong learning a reality
Supporting the seamless transition for students between educational institutions and across further and higher education is an important requirement for lifelong learning and the goal of a range of regional and national initiatives, including the Jisc-funded MLEs for Lifelong Learning programme.
A new and free publication - The Think Tank: Making Lifelong Learning a Reality - published by Jisc infoNet, one of Jisc’s advisory services, and ALT (the Association for Learning Technology), looks at the many organisational and cultural aspects of this issue, using real-life cases as examples. The book, already proving extremely popular, includes summaries and reflections on sessions from an event held in Birmingham earlier this year.
The event was an opportunity for practitioners and managers to share their experiences and covered a range of subjects including leadership, strategy and organisational Issues, collaboration, bridging FE and HE, staff development and approaches to e-learning. Speakers from very different professional backgrounds sum up their experiences of lifelong learning and give their views on key issues.
Details are also included of a lively debate on the topic “Joining up learning across organisations is for the benefit of the institutions/government and not the learner”. Professor Mark Stiles of Staffordshire University made the case for the motion while Sal Cooke, Head of Jisc’s TechDis service, opposed it in a very enjoyable, entertaining and, at times heated, session.
The publication is available, free of charge, from Jisc infoNet. To obtain copies of this and other publications please click on the following link: infoNet publication.
