New FE Exemplars set to inspire the use of online resources
Jisc negotiates for and provides a vast range of online resources that can enrich education and research. But how can practitioners make the most of these resources? And how can they be used to support classroom learning and home study?
Jisc has commissioned a series of five Exemplars which demonstrate how FE practitioners can use content found in online resources to support their teaching. The FE Exemplars cover a wide range of scenarios including how a practitioner might use film to support GCSE History students studying the Vietnam War; how text from Infotrac can be used to create tasks for home based study for the BTEC National Beauty Therapy Science; how practitioners can use an image from the Education Image Gallery as the focus for a discussion activity about the Golden Jubilee for Level 1 Literacy students.
There are five Exemplars covering the following subjects:
Access all the Exemplars (Please note that you must be within an education institution to access the exemplars online).
The Exemplars are designed to demonstrate and inspire the use of online resources. They show how practitioners can use text and images from these resources to support classroom learning and home based study to meet the core syllabus. The Exemplars provide walkthroughs for the scenarios which relate to specific qualifications.
Jisc and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) are partnering in a study to evaluate the effectiveness and the value of the Exemplars in guiding the FE practitioner on how to use and embed online resources in their teaching. The study will explore how the Exemplars have been used in teaching by champions of e-learning and how the Exemplars have guided practitioners who are new to using online resources in the adoption of e-learning practices. Practitioners in English colleges will be commissioned to create case studies of how they have used the Exemplars.
