JiscPAS welcomes Google decision on essay writing services
The Jisc Plagiarism Advisory Service today welcomed the announcement by
Google to ban advertisements by essay writing services, saying its decision
was an 'important' and a 'responsible' one. Google bans advertisements by essay writing services
Will Murray, JiscPAS Service Director said: 'This is an important
decision for national and institutional attempts to support academic
integrity in the UK. We welcome this move and hope that along with other
measures being taken across the sector it will send a further signal that
cheat sites and essay writing services which encourage students to pass the
work of others off as their own have no place in education and nothing to
offer students.'
Norman Wiseman, Jisc Head of Outreach and Services said: 'This
responsible decision is to be welcomed by all in the higher education
sector. Supported by the work of the Jisc Plagiarism Advisory Service,
universities have made great strides in confronting the challenge of
plagiarism in recent years and in ensuring that their students are fully
aware of their responsibilities. Essay writing services have shown
themselves to be very much part of the problem and this decision will help
reduce the visibility of these services considerably and support all our
efforts to safeguard the integrity of UK academic qualifications.'
