Jiscmail more than doubles in size
Delivering up to 143 million messages to list members in the UK and internationally, Jiscmail has been a hugely popular service, in part thanks to the team which have administered and run it since 2000.
Following an open procurement process (which must be undergone in line with the legal framework for procuring publicly funded services over a value of around £153,000 - see here for more details), Jiscmail will remain at the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils, having successfully bid for the tender put out by UKERNA.
Since CCLRC first operated the service in 2000, Jiscmail has more than doubled in size. It has over 375,000 users across the UK academic and research communities (just over 500 from within the CCLRC) and more than 170,000 international users based in 193 countries. The Jiscmail archives are a hugely valuable source of knowledge and form a searchable repository.
Heather Weaver, Jiscmail Director explained, “It is a real honour to run such a high profile service. I believe our success is down to our attention to detail and commitment to provide the highest standards in service availability, security and helpline support."
CCLRC – Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils owns and operates the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, the Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire and the Chilbolton Observatory in Hampshire.
