Jisc judges outstanding ICT initiative award

23 September 2010

Jisc is once again judging an award that will highlight university ICT initiatives of national importance – those that have demonstrated the most innovative and strategic use of technology with implications outside their institutions.

The award entitled ‘Outstanding ICT Initiative of the Year’ is part of the suite of annual Times Higher Education Awards to be announced in November this year.

Sarah Porter, Jisc's head of innovation, said: "This year’s entries are particularly strong with many possible winners to choose from. It is great to see that such a number of institutions are continuing to seek creative, innovative solutions to improving the student experience, engaging with the general public and raising their research profiles.”

The judges for the award are Professor David Baker, chair of Jisc’s chairs’ committee and former principal of University College Plymouth St Mark & St John;  Sarah Porter, head of innovation at Jisc, and Sean Mackney, deputy chief executive of the Higher Education Academy.

The entries came from all corners of the UK, reflected in the shortlisted institutions which are spread as far afield as Northern Ireland, Wales and southern England.

6 shortlisted projects

  • Open University - iSpot
  • Harper Adams University College – Open Fields
  • University of Leicester – Media Zoo
  • University of the West of England - SHE
  • University of Ulster - Engineering Education Island
  • University of Bristol- ChemLabS

The winner will be announced by Sarah Porter in London on 25 November 2010.
