Call for proposals issued under Jisc's capital programme

28 April 2006

A call for proposals was today issued by Jisc calling on institutions to submit funding proposals for projects in the following areas: e-learning, repositories and preservation, and e-infrastructure.

The call is part of Jisc’s capital programme, an investment of £81m over three years awarded by HEFCE and HEFCW to support central objectives of the DfES’s e-strategy, the Science and Innovation Investment Framework: 2004-2014 and Reaching Higher, the Welsh Assembly Government’s strategy for the Higher Education Sector.

Announcing details of the capital programme at last month’s Jisc conference, Professor Sir Ron Cooke, Chairman of Jisc, said: ‘These activities represent an important milestone in the continued development of our national e-infrastructure and the engagement with ICT of UK education and research. Jisc is delighted to have been entrusted with what are significant funds for further investment.’

The full version of the circular describes the funding available in each area. The deadline for receipt of proposals in response to this call is 12 noon on Thursday 22 June.  A town meeting will be held in Birmingham on Wednesday 10 May 2006 to provide a forum for discussion of the call and its subject matter. Institutions will need to register to attend this free event.

A separate call for proposals under the digitisation strand of the programme was issued earlier this month.
