AccessApps wins international accolade
As leaders and practitioners from across education gathered at the IMS Global Conference in Barcelona, little did they know that Jisc projects and services would return to the UK with a number of awards. As five funded-Jisc projects won accolades at the Learning Impact Awards during the conference, the Jisc Regional Support Centre for Scotland North and East (RSC) won the Best Accessibility Solution award for AccessApps.
AccessApps is a collection of open source and freeware portable applications – all running from a USB stick and designed to give learners the tools they need to experience learning in the way that suits them, when they need it.
Manager of the RSC, Sarah Price, said “It’s fantastic to get this award from such an important international body as IMS Global. The impact it creates will undoubtedly help us deliver the message about the value of open source and free software. If colleges and universities are interested in being able to meet the individual needs of the learner – or to personalize their learning - there’s hardly a more personal tool than AccessApps. Running from a portable USB stick small enough to fit in their pocket, AccessApps is an empowering tool that gives the learner the environment they need, whenever and wherever they go.”
Guy Lambert, Managing Director, Jisc Services Management Company Ltd said: “I am delighted to see the excellent AccessApps initiative getting the recognition it deserves. It proves again that the RSCs produce innovative solutions that deliver real practical benefits to the learning community. The challenge for the company is to bring the RSCs and the other Jisc services into ever closer cooperation to deliver even better results for colleges and universities.”
AccessApps is an initiative developed by the Regional Support Centre Scotland North and East, but actively promoted and supported by all UK Regional Support Centres, Jisc TechDis and Jisc OSS Watch.
