Rapid community building: Innovative development - JISC conference 2008

The JISC Users and Innovation Programme is exploring a range of new and innovative technologies for Teaching, Research and Administration.  As part of its development work it brought together a 'community' from across the HE sector to identify issues and technologies that the programme should investigate. This session should be of interest to practitioners wishing to know more about innovative technology, managers of 'communities' and those with a responsibility for deployment and dissemination of new technology in institutions.

This session will showcase the programme's own use of the following technologies:

  • Social Networking tools
  • Multi User Virtual Environments
  • Web 2.0 technologies

In addition, there will be snapshots of the projects funded under this call.

Objectives
  • Create an awareness of the Programme level use of new technologies within JISC and how it may translate into other areas of the HE sector
  • Show how to make use of new and emerging technologies in the development of communities
  • Demonstrate the benefits and risks of web 2.0 technologies
