JISC ITT: Analysis of the value and benefits of text mining and text analytics in UK FE and HE

The JISC invites tenders to conduct an analysis of the value and benefits of text mining and text analytics in UK FE and HE.

The objectives of the work are:
  • To collect evidence of the value, in particularly in economic terms, and benefits of the development and exploitation of technologies and good practice in text mining and text analytics.
  • To analyse and present this evidence to support the adoption of particular positions with respect to the technical, economic, legal and policy contexts that are relevant to them. This will involve collecting evidence from those who have used such technologies and good practice.

Text mining and text analytics are broad enabling technologies with applicability across learning, research and management. The focus of this work is on the public intellectual outputs of HE, rather than (for example) administrative records, and how the application of text mining and text analytics to these outputs can benefit UK academics, colleges and universities, and thereby the UK economy and society.

Total funding of up to £30,000 (including VAT, travel and subsistence) is available for this project.

The deadline for proposals is 12 noon UK time on Monday 26 September 2011 and the successful bidder will be expected to start work on or around 19 October 2011.
