JISC Grant Funding 04/09 Islamic Studies Catalogue and Manuscript Digitisation
JISC invites institutions to submit funding proposals for projects to be funded as part of its e-content programme for 2008-20011. Funding of up to £275,000 is available for the digitisation of catalogues and manuscripts related to Islamic Studies.
In June 2008, the Government designated Islamic Studies a strategically important subject and invited HEFCE to develop a programme of work. As part of this, the JISC commissioned a report from the University of Exeter to review user requirements for digitised resources in Islamic Studies which made various recommendations as to how JISC could improve digital infrastructure for researchers and teachers in Islamic Studies. HEFCE have provided funding to take some of the recommendations forward including the digitisation of recent Ph.D. theses in Islamic Studies via the Ethos Service and the catalogue and manuscript digitisation outlined in this call.
Proposals may be submitted by any UK-based institution or organisation with collections of significant value to higher education and research in England or the related expertise in managing such collections.
