ITT: Prioritising Digitisation - Establishing Users' Needs for Digitised Content in UK HE Institutions

JISC, in collaboration with the RIN, invites tenders to conduct a study that will identify the key priorities for future digitisation of content held within UK Higher Education Institutions.

The aims of the study are to:

  • identify priority collections for potential digitisation housed within UK HE's libraries, archives, museums as well as faculties and departments;
  • access users' needs and demand for special collections to be digitised across all disciplines, including the life and physical sciences as well as the arts, humanities and social sciences;
  • produce a synthesis of available knowledge about users' needs with regard to usability and format of digitised resources;
  • provide recommendations for a strategic approach to digitisation within the wider context and activity of leading players both in the public and commercial sector.

Funding of between £70,000 and £90,000 (inclusive of VAT and expenses) is available for this study and the work is expected to begin as soon as possible after the award of the grant and be completed by March 2009.

The deadline for proposals is 12:00 noon on Wednesday 9 July 2008
