JISC

1.            Introduction

1.1        The JISC wishes to commission a series of studies to scope Shared Services and Middleware developments within further and higher education. This tender invites bids for six separate studies to support this work.

1.2        The studies will both inform and enhance the effort to develop common services and middleware to meet the requirements of teaching, learning and research within the UK, drawing on work already undertaken by JISC development programmes.     

1.3        The tenders are open to members of the FE and HE community and other relevant organisations with the appropriate expertise and knowledge. However, in the case of the middleware studies, it is anticipated that the work will be undertaken within FE and HE institutions.

1.4        It is essential that liaison be established with all successful parties involved in the studies in order to identify common areas of work and engender interchange of results, experiences and ideas.  There must be clear synergies between the studies where appropriate, and it is likely that the JISC will invite successful contractors to attend an initial meeting to discuss potential liaison.
