This workshop, aimed at around 60 Library Senior Managers and LMS vendors, will focus on the recent LMS Horizon Scan report, discuss its recommendations and focus on the implications for institutions.
Jisc and SCONUL held a community consultation event following the completion of their jointly commissioned study into the Library Management Systems (LMS) and related systems market.
Meeting for Librarians The morning was aimed at Library Directors and other senior managers who have responsibility for strategic systems and related developments. It presented an opportunity for librarians to discuss the issues facing them and how recommendations from the report affect these to start to establish shared community vision and scope potential future work in this area

The study was informed by:
- an analysis of the current LMS and related systems market
- detailed interviews with system vendors
- horizon scan that considered broader systems developments (eg. Google/Amazon, corporate systems) and other relevant technological and related developments (eg. Web 2.0 initiatives and user behaviours in the networked environment)
- a library survey
The study also includes a practical guide to support local decision-making. It raises a number of significant challenges and opportunities for both the community and individual libraries.
Workshop Aims
The aims of the workshop were to:
- enable participants to explore the implications for local and collective decision-making
- assist Jisc and SCONUL in identifying priorities for further action informed by community feedback
