This unique event aims to: Disseminate the latest research on conferencing usage, impacts and potential (which is considerable) from JISC-financed Green IT research projects by SusteIT (in collaboration with Janet UK) and the Welsh Video Network (WVN); Highlight successful uses of the technology within the sector, and their benefits to individuals and organisations; Build a balanced view of conferencing use, which acknowledges that face-to-face discussion can be essential and that many conferencing applications are about supplementing and extending, rather than completely replacing, it (hence our ‘physical’ event about virtual technology!); and Debate potential sector level actions to increase uptake and overcome barriers – e.g., should England and Scotland be providing similar levels of support to that funded by the Welsh Assembly through WVN? The event will be useful for: sector policy-makers; senior managers within institutions with an interest in extending reach, improving performance or minimising business travel; and AV, IT and travel coordinators. Opportunities for remote participation will be provided by live streaming, messaging and other means.
