How improved data and a single search-box can open the door to greater content

An event hosted by the British Universities Film & Video Council (BUFVC) comprising of a forum on current projects and the BUFVC AGM followed by an open afternoon at their premises giving visitors an opportunity to meet with staff, view a live demonstration of its shared off-air recording and media archive and tour the archive library.

A BUFVC forum to discuss how current BUFVC projects will result in improved and integrated access to moving image and sound content. The morning forum will include the BUFVC AGM and a sandwich lunch.

The morning forum will look at how the BUFVC constantly, and consistently, strives to not just increase the amount of content available, but to improve metadata and integrate access to all content, thus allowing easier and more significant data discovery by users.

The BUFVC will build on the ‘Power of the VHS’ events with the announcement of ambitious plans to join up television and radio holdings data held by both broadcasters & UK educational institutions with its own expanding integrated database.  The HEFCE funded project will be another step closer to providing a ‘one-stop-shop’ for moving image and sound material.

The forum will comprise presentations relating to current BUFVC projects, including issues faced and how they were overcome to improve the end user experience and the resulting moving image and sound content.

Afternoon:

Open Afternoon at the BUFVC (2.30pm-5pm)

Following ‘The Key to More Access’ morning forum, delegates are invited to attend an Open Afternoon at the BUFVC premises at 77 Wells Street, London from 2.30pm onwards.  The afternoon will include the opportunity to:

  • Meet, chat, discuss issues and provide feedback with BUFVC staff regarding any aspect of BUFVC activity. All staff members will be available and visitors are free to look around the facilities, including the Library.
  • See a live demonstration of BoB National – the BUFVC’s shared off-air recording and media archive.
  • View a showcase of winning and nominated entries from the Learning on Screen Awards 2011, as well as BUFVC publications and literature.
