Energy dashboards and displays - Providing information to support environmental improvement

This free workshop builds on a previous one at the University of Oxford in June – described in a RECSO briefing paper – with the aim of building a network amongst those interested in using energy information to create behavioural change and more informed decision-making in universities and colleges. This is important because of rising prices, carbon regulation, and HEFCE targets. Better information about usage patterns, and changes over time, is a key part of taking action to minimise consumption. This has long been understood by energy managers but hardware and software innovations are now enabling many more people to access and use energy data, and for it to be displayed in buildings. Many universities and colleges are taking advantage of these capabilities, but often in isolation. In addition, there is considerable uncertainty about how information should be provided in order to motivate changes in user behaviour.

The aim of this event is therefore to:

Share experience and learning about the topic, and to
Discuss how people perceive and use energy information and the implications of this for dashboards and display design.

The event is being funded by JISC, and has been organised by two JISC Green IT projects – DELTA at the University of Bradford and RECSO (Responsible Energy Costs, led by Forum for the Future).
